 Parable of the cup of patience 


Once upon a time, there was a sage to whom people came every day with complaints. One spoke of poverty, another of injustice, the third of envy. The sage silently listened to everyone, saying nothing.  


One day, the disciple could not bear it any longer:  

— Master, why do you never give advice? People come for help!  


The sage filled a cup with water to the brim and said:  

— Carry it through the whole city and don't spill a single drop.  


The disciple returned, not once diverting his attention.  

— What did you see on the way? — asked the sage.  

— Nothing. I kept all my attention on the cup.
